Couples counseling at Catalyst Counseling is for partners at any stage of their relationship who are ready to do something different. We work with couples in Northern Virginia, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Maryland who are experiencing repeated conflict they cannot resolve on their own, emotional distance that has grown over time, a breakdown in trust or communication, or the stress of a major life transition such as a new child, relocation, or career change. We also work with couples who are not in crisis but want to invest in their relationship before problems take root. Premarital counseling is available for partners who want to build a strong foundation before they marry.
Catalyst Counseling provides couples therapy for communication breakdowns and conflict patterns, trust repair after infidelity or betrayal, emotional disconnection and intimacy concerns, parenting disagreements and co-parenting stress, life transitions that have created strain in the relationship, grief and loss affecting the partnership, and premarital preparation. Our therapists serving the DC metro area bring clinical expertise and a direct, compassionate approach to all of these concerns.
Effective couples therapy requires more than a neutral space to air grievances. At Catalyst, we use structured, evidence-based frameworks to help partners understand the cycles driving their conflict, develop communication skills that hold up outside of the therapy room, and rebuild the emotional safety that allows real intimacy to grow. Our therapists are trained in approaches grounded in attachment theory and research on what actually makes relationships work. Sessions are balanced, focused, and guided. Both partners are heard. Neither is positioned as the problem.
Your first session will give your therapist a clear picture of your relationship history, your current concerns, and what you both want to be different. From there, sessions are structured with intention. You will not simply be talking at each other with a therapist in the room. You will be learning and practicing skills, identifying patterns, and making concrete progress toward goals you set together. Many couples notice a shift in how they communicate within the first few sessions. The length of treatment depends on the complexity of what you are working through, and your therapist will discuss that with you openly. Catalyst Counseling offers evening appointments, telehealth, and accepts most major insurance plans, serving couples throughout Northern Virginia, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Maryland.
