Marie Kennedy, LMSW, is a trauma therapist at Catalyst Counseling who sees clients across the entire state of Virginia by telehealth. Alexandria, Richmond, Hampton Roads, Roanoke, the Shenandoah Valley. If you live in Virginia, you can work with Marie.
A lot of the people Marie sees have spent years being the steady one. The one who handles the crisis, shows up for the shift, keeps the household running, and files the stress away for later. Eventually later shows up. Sleep gets thin. Patience gets short. Memories you thought you had dealt with start showing up uninvited. That is usually when people reach out.
Marie is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), one of the most researched treatments for trauma and PTSD. EMDR helps your brain finish processing experiences that got stuck, so they stop driving your reactions today. You do not have to retell every detail of what happened for it to work, and many clients notice change sooner than they did with talk therapy alone. Learn more about EMDR therapy at Catalyst.
Marie’s approach is collaborative and grounded in evidence-based treatment. Along with EMDR, she draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), somatic therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches to address both the emotional and physical side of trauma and anxiety. The work focuses on building safety, restoring emotional regulation, and giving you practical tools that hold up long after therapy ends.
Marie is in network with Aetna, Cigna, and CareFirst, and accepts Virginia Medicaid plans including Anthem HealthKeepers Plus and Aetna Better Health. Many federal employees are covered through CareFirst or Aetna plans. Self-pay is also available. Sessions are held by secure video, so you can meet from home or anywhere private in Virginia, with evening appointments available.
